All too often people can be heard uttering these words in response to witnessing someone else displaying skill in one avenue or another: "Oh you are such a natural" or sometimes "Wow! You are very gifted!" Generally statements like these are understood as compliments; as one person congratulating another on their impressive ability. In reality, however, people say things like this in order to justify their decision to not take action in their lives. I have it in mind that there are no inherently "gifted" individuals in this world, or rather, we all share the same single gift. This gift can be understood as our freedom to choose the direction

I am exposed, several times a day, to various forms of message that promote living life to its fullest. Since early childhood we have all been bombarded with messages suggesting that we forge our own paths in life. "Be a leader, not a follower" we are told. Why is it then that so many people ignore this fundamental message? Take the new Alice in Wonderland movie for example. To me the message was quite clear and inspiring: "do what you want to do with your life."
